Another summer is drawing to a close and it is time to start thinking about another great season of shuffleboard in District 1 and what we can all do working together to make this next season the best. In order to accomplish this as they say, “it takes a village,” not one person or group, but everyone in the shuffleboard community to play, have FUN and work together.

First, we have the tournaments! We can come together to play and have fun with our fellow shufflers. The first being the PreWestern which starts October 30th followed by the Western which is being hosted in District 1 by Greenfield Village, Mesa Spirit and Venture Out, November 6-10. If you are not on a team and would like to be, please let me know and we’ll put you on a list for those captains still trying to fill their team. Each of these resorts will need many volunteers to assist in hosting this event. When possible, please volunteer to help!

Second, we have league play! Playing on a team is great fun; you make new friends from other parks and have a little friendly competition. If you are not on a league team and would like to play or would consider being a team captain in either the early start (December 1) or late start league (January 1, 2024), please let me know. I’m hopeful we can have more teams this year participating.

Third, promote shuffleboard in your individual resorts. Invite and encourage anyone you are in contact with to give shuffleboard a try and see how much fun we have on the courts.

The Fall District 1 meeting is scheduled for November 18th in the Ballroom at Greenfield Village at 1:00 pm. Mark this date on your calendar and plan to attend. Following this meeting the Early Start Leagues will be finalized and all team captains/co-captains need to be in attendance. Late Start team captains will also have a short meeting.
